Novelis aluminium illuminates Paris’ Milky Way
In the southeast of Paris in Lieusaint, in the heart of Carré Sénart, the Théâtre-Sénart was built as a new cultural center.
Energy-efficient and sustainable design concept
On a total area of about 10,600 square meters and with a height of about 29 meters the new landmark of Carré Sénart rises into the French sky.
With an investment of 43.3 million Euro the architects Chaix & Morel et Associés succeeded in creating a building which combines sustainability, energy efficiency and design. Due to a special lighting and ventilation system, no additional cooling air conditioning or further light sources are needed even on hot and dark days. Furthermore, the technical installations and ventilation systems are hidden behind the aluminum façade that surprises with its striking and flowing forms.

Pre-painted and perforated aluminium façade shines day and night
The rear-ventilated façade consists of perforated and punched aluminium panels with a grid dimension of 1500mm x 1500mm. Further perforations of 100mm x 100mm and 50mm x 50mm and square punched holes create an apparently random sheet pattern. The overall façade shows eight different sheet design variations. Due to its’ strength even when perforated, the Novelis AIMg3-alloy façade sheet is able to support a high span width. The building skin consisting of 2mm ff2® coil-coated aluminium in the colour shade “sunrise silver” shines day and night. With LED lights integrated into the façade – the futuristic building shines like the Milky Way.
The aluminium panels’ with high-quality PvdF surface finish been proven to be a viable solution for building projects worldwide because of its weather resistance even in extreme climates. Despite the uncoated edges resulting from the punched holes, the material is unaffected by corrosion
